IRVINE HOUSING ASSOCIATION APPOINTS NEW CHAIR AND REPORTS ON A MOMENTOUS YEAR AT AGM Irvine Housing Association’s Shareholders attended their 18th Annual General Meeting at The Gailes Restaurant and Hotel, Irvine, on Tuesday 13 September 2011.
The Association’s Chairman, Tommy Farrell JP presented on what has been the most historic year since the Association was established. The last 12 months have seen Association Shareholders vote to join Riverside and become charitable. After a major review of how the Association delivers its services, a new Customer Services Team has been established. Engagement with customers has been paramount and the introduction of a new Community Involvement Team will enhance the already strong relationships and productive partnerships the Association has with its communities. As well as investment in customers and communities, in the last year the Association has invested a record £1.7m in major repairs to its homes and work has continued on improving performance and efficiency.
After five years, Tommy Farrell stepped down as the Association’s Chairman at the AGM. Alan West, who has been the Finance and Executive Services Committee Chair at the Association for the last three years, was elected to preside as the new Chairman.

It has made the job of Chairman enjoyable as well as fulfilling, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside them as I intend to remain on the Board. I wish Alan all the best in his new venture as Chair.”
Association Chief Executive Paul Hillard said, "Tommy has steered the Association through some amazing, and sometimes challenging, times; through new developments, our newly formed partnership with Riverside and one of the toughest recessions we have faced in recent years. His leadership and guidance have been invaluable to the success of the Association and we are delighted that he will remain on the Board. As his successor, Alan West has a huge role to fill, but I have no doubt that his commitment and passion for the sector mean he is more than up to the challenge."
Following a distinguished career as a corporate banker with HBOS, Alan brings with him key skills in debt and equity restructuring, credit skills, relationship management and leadership development. “I’m very much looking forward to getting started in the position and playing my part in the Association as we deliver a first-class service to our customers. Irvine Housing Association is a fantastic organisation and I’m incredibly proud to be associated with it.”
